I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), in particular the theory and techniques of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), a model that was developed by Albert Ellis, Ph.D. I received my training in REBT at the Albert Ellis Institute in New York City.
Thought and Cognition or "how we think" play a huge role in how we feel, good or bad! In addition, our thoughts play a major role in the behaviors we engage in. I work with my clients to find healthier and more effective ways of thinking , feeling and reacting to the events of the past, as well as help them identify and utilize useful tools for dealing with current issues and problems.
Some of my clients are working towards building coping skills for dealing with stress and/or finding tools for coping with the adversities of daily living. Others are working through some of the more common mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, grief, major life transition and interpersonal relationship issues.
I value the importance of Work/Life balance. I also understand the challenge of finding time to engage in counseling and/or exercise. I have often encountered clients who share with me that they do not have enough time to participate in self-care activities. I hope that the services offered through FitCounseling will provide a healthy and beneficial solution to the age old dilemma of "not enough time".
